Grief descended on Kicukiro Sunday night when a commuter taxi (Coaster) overturned killing ten people instantly and injuring many others.

According to eye witnesses, the speeding van which was heading to the city centre from Bugesera ,lost control when the driver tried to dodge a motor cycle that had parked in the middle of the road after knocking down one person at about 8:00pm.

The accident occurred in a corner, about one a kilometre from Kicukiro centre.

"Being in the corner and the van travelling at high speed, the driver tried to dodge the motorcycle and ended up going off the road,” an eye witness who was at the scene at the time of the accident said.

Efforts to reach the traffic police commander and police spokesperson for further details were futile by press time as their phones were off.

However, according to sources, many other passengers were critically injured and were rushed to different hospitals in Kigali.
