KARONGI – Barely one month after being accused of underperformance during the 7th national dialogue, Bernard Kayumba, the Mayor of Karongi district has been asked by the district Advisory Council to start showing results.
According to Martias Abimana, the president of the Advisory Council, more results are expected if he is to retain his seat.
"We are organising a meeting very soon to take appropriate measures against the poorly performing district leadership,” Abimana said. "If we don’t chart out a possible way for him to improve on his performance we will seek another new team.” Abimana said.
He revealed that the advisory council is increasingly concerned with the poor development of the district infrastructure and general economic performance.
Abimana also revealed that the mayor is facing accusations of failing to construct a better Genocide memorial site in Bisesero. The Mayor has also been facing criticism from the Advisory Council for taking decisions without their consent as stipulated by the law.
Efforts to get a response on all these allegations levelled against Kayumba were futile as he could not pick his cell phone by press time. Sources said that he was reportedly locked up in a meeting the whole of yesterday.
