APR 1-1 Atraco

EMMANUEL Sebanani deprived Atraco of a vital victory as APR snatched a dramatic late equalizer against Atraco at Nyamirambo stadium to maintain their lead at the top of the league table.

Sebanani who came on for Bokota Labama in the second half, leveled for the reigning champions with only eight minutes of normal time left to play.

The former Musanze striker converted a fine set-piece created by Kabange Twite to deny the taxi-men side chance to bridge the gap with the arch-rivals.

Jean Lomami had given the 2009 Cecafa Club champions a first half lead.

The striker left APR’s goalkeeper Jean Luc Ndayishimiye screaming at his defenders for failing to stop him after pouncing on a clever cross from Jabir Mutarambirwa.

Erik Paske’s army side kept pushing for the equalizer but their efforts were pegged back when the side’s former skipper Patrick Mafisango was given marching orders by referee Hudu Munyemana after a professional foul on Yahaya Serubugo 22 minutes into the second half.

With ten-men, Atraco enjoyed possession but could not find a second goal.

Atraco’s backline was not troubled until the 82nd minute when Sebanani sent APR’s fans into frenzy with a clinical strike.

The draw took the military side back to the summit of the league table. APR is on level points with Etincelles (20 points) but tops the table on goal difference.

On Saturday, Etincelles’ frustrations continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by AS Kigali.

Sam Timbe’s Atraco remain in third position with 18 points while Police and Rayon Sport lie in fourth and fifth positions respectively with 17 points each.
