SO HELP ME GOD: New Nyarugenge Mayor,Theophila Nyirahonora, swears in

NYARUGENGE - Just two days after being elected, Theophila Nyirahonora was sworn-in Friday as the Mayor of Nyarugenge District.

In a function held at the district headquarters, Nyirahonora pledged to be committed to her duties in fulfilling the four government pillars of good governance, justice, people’s welfare and economic development.

With just a year to the end of her term, she observed that there is still a lot to be done, especially in implementing the city Master Plan and evaluating what have been accomplished in the last four years.

The former member of Nyarugenge District Advisory Council (DAC) said: "I have come just a few months to the end of my term. But there is still a lot to accomplish.

Not only goals set by the DAC, but also other government programmes. And everyone’s idea is an important factor in accomplishing all the set goals.”

City Mayor Aisa Kirabo Kacyira congratulated Nyirahonora for her commitment during her four-year service in the DAC that proved her a worthy leader.

"But the secret in managing this country’s big town is to take yourself as someone who doesn’t know everything, but to work with all other departments to realize the district’s goals,” Kirabo said.

"In just one year, a lot can be changed. This is a year which needs a lot of commitment and a year which has major events, most especially the fourth coming Presidential elections. It therefore requires everyone’s fortitude,” Kirabo added.

Nyirahonora is the third person to lead the district since 2005. She replaces Origene Rutayisire who resigned in October last year citing personal reasons.

Jean Marie Vianney Mubirigi who was in office for a period of less than five months before he resigned, was the first to hold the post.
