Judges and all court registrars must work jointly to build a stronger judiciary with efficient service delivery and equal justice to all Rwandans regardless of their status.

The call was made by High Court president Johnston Busingye, at a meeting with judges and other judicial officials from several parts of the country.

"Whatever we do should be in the spirit of transforming our country for the better, so that we can weed out vices like corruption and poor governance as we look at the bigger picture of shifting Rwanda from aid dependence,” Busingye said.

He stated that Rwanda has developed a strong judicial system in a few years, which he said is now relied upon and trusted by the citizens.

Busingye however called upon court registrars to give more value to their work in the New Year by improving their time management skills, improving customer care qualities and efficiency at work to build on the foundation built in the previous years.

"This meeting will serve as a platform to review and assess what we achieved last year as well as set goals for this year so that in the end, we can consolidate our achievements,” Busingye said.

In an interview, Busingye, stressed that the judiciary executes its duties independently without influence from central government or other institutions.

"Independence however does not warrant us to just do what we want, but rather what we are supposed to do, and what the law specifies,” the judge said.
