HARDLY four months since his move to national league side Police FC, Rwanda’s all-time goal great Jimmy Gatete has joined Ethiopia’s St. George on a one-year deal.

Police Coach Jean Paul Munyankindi confirmed the development yesterday saying, "Gatete is no longer with us because he has joined St. George in Ethiopia on a one-year contract.”

Early this month, Gatete underwent trials at the Ethiopian club but remained tight lipped on the outcome of the trials. At the time, he said, "It is true I have done trials in Ethiopia but that‘s all I can say for now because nothing has been decided yet.”

The Amavubi forward, who has also played for APR and Rayon Sport was scheduled to leave for Addis Ababa yesterday.

Gatete’s transfer to Ethiopia’s richest club is said to have earned Police US$ 10000 (Rwf. 5.6 million) but efforts to get his weekly wages were futile as he preferred to keep it private.

Gatete known as ‘god of goals’ by the local fans will now play alongside the likes of joins the likes of Uganda’s goalie Hannington Kalyesubula, Assani Bajope, and Patrick Ochan at the club which is funded Philanthropist Mohammed Al Amoudi and which is managed by Serbian Milutin Sredojevic.

Gatete is a legend in Rwandan football following his spectacular role in guiding the country to its first ever Africa Nations Cup appearance back in 2004.

The striker scored crucial goals against Uganda and Ghana.
