The Office of Ombudsman has began investigations into the whereabouts of building materials meant for the construction of the houses for the survivors of 1994 Genocide against Tutsis.
The investigation is targeting the districts of Nyarugenge, Kicukiro in Kigali City and Burera in the Northern Province.
Speaking to The New Times, Seraphin Rumaziminsi, a director in the Ombudsman’s office, said that the investigations were a continuation of the Girinka and materials probe that seeks to make sure donations reach the intended beneficiaries.
"This is a continuation of our recent exercise, only that this time, much of the emphasis is on building materials in the three districts, "said Rumaziminsi.
The materials include cement and iron sheets meant for the construction of accommodation for Genocide survivors and other vulnerable persons.
In a presentation during the just concluded 7th National annual Dialogue, several programmes that fall under the Ministry of Local Government were strongly criticized, exposing concerns that materials may not have reached their intended groups.
