Following accommodation complaints from new students at the Kigali Institute of Education (KIE), the Vice Rector for Academics, Dr. James Vuningoma, has refuted claims that there is unfair allocation of available rooms.

In an interview with The New Times, Vuningoma explained that there have never been enough accommodation facilities at the institute adding that students should not complain because the few rooms are allocated according to need.

"There are only 400 rooms available for the female and a few for males. Students are supposed to apply and a committee headed by the Dean of Students allocates these rooms according to the students’ needs.

"KIE has a policy where girls or women who come from distant locations like Cyangugu, or those with special needs are given priority. The institute did not expand this year, so there should not be any reason for complaint,” Vuningoma said.

He called upon the new students to approach officials for better explanation of KIE’s accommodation policy.
KIE is a public institution of higher learning, which started its operations in 1999.
