During the month of November, Rwanda’s inflation, which reflects the general increase in prices of goods and services, rose to 5.93 percent, up 0.23 percent from the previous month.

The National Institute of Statistics for Rwanda (NISR) said in a statement that the underlying inflation rate—excluding fresh food and energy increased by 0.69 percent compared to the previous month.

The statistics body said the increase in the consumer prices index of 0.68 percent is attributable primarily to the increase in food and non-alcoholic beverages which rose by 1.61 percent as well as transport that registered a modest increase of 0.59 percent.

"It is noted that the increase of 1.61 percent in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages is attributable to the increase of bread, cereals and vegetables,” NISR said in a statement.

Prices for bread and cereals rose by 2.88 percent while vegetable increased by 1.27 percent.

The statement said that ‘local goods’ increased by 6.21 percent on annual change with a monthly variation of 0.82 percent, while prices of imported products rose by 1.49 percent on annual change with a monthly change of 0.08 percent.

"The prices of the fresh products had a positive annual change of 24.5 between November 2009 and November 2008.”
