The Salus Relax annual music awards preparations are in full swing—and artists are rushing into studios.

But the million dollar question is who qualifies for these awards?

Of course, if the nominations for this year’s Salus awards are any indication, Meddy and The Ben have had a fair amount of luck because of their 2009’s excellent performances.

"The sense I’m getting is, a lot of artists are going to be disappointed in this year’s awards because of their inefficiency,” says a source, who (preferred anonymity) at a major record studio.

"In recent years, artists like Rafiki and DMS had significant popularity, but they have been silent for sometime, we’re not sure whether they’re still in the business.”

Jean Michel Karangwa, one of the organisers of the Salus Relax event said; "We’ll take whatever action necessary to ensure that this year awards is significant to our industry, artists, and to the music fans.”

The event was initiated in 2008, by the University Radio Station "Radio Salus”, in conjunction with Ikirezi Group through Salus Relax Programme aired every week on Radio Salus.

Last year, Tom Close and Lisa emerged winners in the categories "Best Male and Best Female Artists”.
