According to police, the operation collected three pistols, two grenades, army and police uniforms, two fake guns and 11 rounds of ammunition.

Speaking to The New Times, Regional police Commander, Central, ACP George Rumanzi revealed that the suspects have already been aligned before the courts of law.

"We believe these people are not working alone. There could be some people aiding them and the operation is still going on,” Rumanzi said.

In the last one year, 29 motorcycle taxis have been stolen by robbers who pose as passengers, 27 of them from Kigali city alone.

According to the motorists’ cooperative, ASSETAMORWA, four of their members have so far been killed by armed robbers.

"Most of these people pose as passengers and when they reach dark areas where there are no people, they kill the motorist,” Dieudonne Nteziyaremye, from ASSETAMORWA told the The New Times.

As a measure of cracking down on the increasing crime rate, Rumanzi said that more police personal has been deployed in the city.
