GISAGARA - Residents of Gisagara district were last week left in shock after two housemaids were found dead in their bedroom in Mukindo sector. The cause of their death still remains unknown.

Lenatha Nyinawumuntu, 16 and Jacqueline Nyiransengimana, 17, were employed as housemaids by two nurses at Kibayi Hospital, Marie Josée Nyirangendahimana and Donatile Mukarautamu respectively.

Two charcoal stoves found in their shared bedroom are suspected to have been the cause of the mysterious death, according to house owners.

"We found two charcoal stoves near the mat on which they slept, the smoke  from the stoves could have suffocated them to death,” said Donatile Mukarutamu, one of the occupants of the house.

Following the deaths, Sector authorities have condemned residents who still employ minors as housemaids.

"People should not in the first place be employing minors in their homes, they should instead be sending them back to school,” said David Muhire, the executive secretary of Mukindo sector.
