Kigali City continues to lead the crime list with more than 30 percent of the cases followed by the Southern Province with 2,172.
The report ranked theft and assault as the second and third most committed crimes respectively. Theft has been on the increase in the last three months in the city with 80 cases reported during the period.
Police spokesperson Eric Kayiranga said that stronger measures to track down criminals and fight drug abuse are in the pipeline.
"We have laid strategies to curb the crime rate. But this can only be achieved if Rwandans can be part of it by reporting all those criminals because most of them are known by those they live with,” Kayiranga said.
