APR and Rayon Sport have failed to beat the CAF deadline of submitting their squads for next year’s continental championships. Rwanda’s representatives in MTN Caf Champions League and Confederations’ Cup failed to hit the initial deadline of November 30 that has already passed.

But Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer played down any fears that the two giants clubs could face sanctions from the continental football governing body.

Speaking to Times Sport by telephone, Jules Kalisa said, everything is okay despite both clubs not being able to beat the deadline set by Caf.

"The first deadline was on November 30 while the second is on December 30. So we have sufficient time to sort out everything,” he said. Kalisa further disclosed that the two clubs had until Friday, November 30 to forward their respective squads.

"They are supposed to bring the names of their players (and their licenses) that will feature in Caf competitions. We gave then until November 30,” Kalisa noted.
APR who won last season’s Primus league will take part in the 12 edition of the MTN/CAF Champions League.

The military side has been taking part the elite champions in the last three consecutive seasons but not once have they gone passed the preliminary stages to the lucrative group stages.

The nine-time local champions faced a rough exit at the second round stage from this year’s edition when their return leg fixture against Togolese side Maranatha de Fiokopo was abandoned six minutes before full time.

APR players walked off the pitch protesting the referee’s ‘dubious’ decisions including awarding the home side two contentious penalties.

APR were leading 2-0 from the first leg that was played in Kigali but by the time of storming off the field, Maranatha were level through the two penalties. Andy Mfutila’s side had qualified to that stage after eliminating DR Congo’s St. Eloi Lupopo 3-1 on aggregate in the previous round.

Caf initially punished APR for their players’ actions with a three-year ban from competing in any Caf sanctioned competitions but that was punishment was overturned three months later.

Rayon Sport who finished second to APR in the league last season will take part in the 5th edition of the Confederation Cup.
The Blues lasted participated in Caf competition in 2006 when they were eliminated from the Confederations Cup 1-3 on aggregates by Egyptian side Al Ittihad Al-Iskandary at the second stage.

Rayon had earlier done away with Ethiopia’s Awassa City 2-0 on goal aggregates.
This year, Atraco were Rwanda’s representatives in the Confederations Cup. The taxi men’s club reached the second round.
