I would like to thank Rama Isibo for his interesting and balanced article ("He who pays the piper calls the tune”, Jan 6).

He has exposed the desperation behind legislation in modern Africa.

This compromised approach is evident in several other areas like the management of oil revenues and other natural resources.

The current debate in Uganda mirrors ongoing struggles in other parts of the Continent.

These conflicts may look uncoordinated on the surface but the bottom lines are exactly the same - global interests versus local traditions.
