In a move to position Rwanda as a knowledge based economy, Gasabo 3 Dimension (3D) is exporting Computer Aid Design (CAD) of three dimensions (3D) to the United States of America, France and United Kingdom.

In 3D computer graphics, 3D modeling is the process of developing a mathematical representation of any three-dimensional object via specialized software.

The project started under RDB-IT formerly RITA and was incorporated in April 2008 through collaboration with SolidWorks Corporation, a US firm.

In an interview with Gasabo 3D Chief Executive Officer John Rugamba the company receives two international projects per month.

He said that drawings are sent in 2D formats and are developed into 3D model and the latest 2D which can be modified and edited.

The company has also worked with MTN Rwanda contractors to design their towers and currently working with KIST to design and manufacture 3D CAD.

"The core objective is to be cost effective to international clients and cut the continuous buying of technology but develop it locally,” Rugamba said.

According to Rugamba, buying technology from abroad is very expensive because companies fly some one to take the object for repair.

"The first quarter of 2008 was spent on trainings and perfecting the team because dealing with international companies no room for mistakes,” he emphasized.

Gasabo 3D, has a marketing company in California that out-sources clients and the projects has also approached commercial attaches in different Rwandan Embassies to help penetrate the European market.

Currently the project is eyeing manufacturing, construction and telecom companies locally and East African Countries. Gasabo 3D intends to work with local companies help them move from being traders to service providers and technology implementers.

Rugamba anticipates that in two years Gasabo 3D will be an international brand as engineering out sourcing company. However as an out sourcing company it was heavily affected by the Global Financial Crisis.

Gasabo 3D is an innovative web based engineering services company that converts ICT graphic design software of 2D data to 3D solid models at affordable rates.
