KIGALI - As a sign of improving relations between Rwanda and France, the French Foreign Affairs Minister, Bernard Kouchner, is expected in the country today on a visit aimed at strengthening ties.

The visit is part of Kouchner’s six-nation Africa tour that includes visits to Egypt, Burkina Faso, Congo Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Ivory Coast.

A source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation yesterday indicated that the French top diplomat will be in the country for a three-day visit accompanied by a big delegation that includes members of the press.

Kouchner previously traveled to Kigali twice, in a move aimed at finding a common ground in improving ties between the two nations. Relations between France and Rwanda took a positive turn towards the end of last year when both governments announced restoration of diplomatic ties.

The two governments went ahead to appoint Ambassadors to their respective capitals signaling a new chapter opened in relations between the two governments.

A delegation of French Government officials was also is in the country last month to reopen their diplomatic mission with the hope that it will be operational during this month.
