RUBAVU - A Toyota Hilux belonging to a Chinese-owned construction company that had been lent to the former vice Mayor of Ngororero, Jacques Habimana, has been recovered in Gisenyi town bearing Congolese number plates.

The controversial former vice Mayor duped officials of the Chinese company into lending him the vehicle claiming that his car was in the garage.

"It is not the first time this Chinese construction company lent the car to Habimana, only that this time around he did not return it,” a police source said.

Habimana fled the country after the Rubavu intermediate court sentenced him to two year’s imprisonment over embezzlement.

According to police reports Habimana is alleged to have sold the vehicle to some Ugandans, however, the vehicle was found in the hands of a Congolese national, Evelyn Marlon Umuhoza, who is currently under police custody.
