ETINCELLES have continued to smash the status quo in the national football league after yet another win over Musanze to stay top of the table with 19 points.
The Western Province side, who spent last season in the second division after being relegated during the 2007-08 season seems to be back with vengeance after winning six of their first seven matches-including a surprise win over big spenders Kiyovu.
Coach Abdul Bizimana believes that the club’s demotion into the second division taught them a lesson about being complacent.
Meanwhile, he dismissed talk of a first league title insisting that it is too early to think about winning the title. Instead, Bizimana said that the team was determined to continue doing well.
"For now, our focus is on trying to win every game we play. Our brilliant start to the season has been down to determination from everyone at the club,” the 50-year-old tactician said.
Meanwhile, defending champions APR survived a late scare on Saturday evening to win 2-1 away at Amagaju. The win moved the military side into second place with 16 points.
Big spenders Kiyovu suffered an Atraco backlash when they were thumped three goals without reply. It was a good comeback for Sam Timbe’s side after suffering a similar humiliation at the hands of Rayon Sport last weekend.
Atraco are now tied with APR on points but the latter have a superior goal difference.
Else where, Jimmy Gatete returned to haunt his former club, Rayon Sport when he scored two goals in Police’s 3-0 win over the Blues.
The 27-year-old Amavubi striker was denied a contract renewal by the Blues in the off-season prompting Police to pounce at the opportunity.
He should why he is still rated as Rwanda’s all-time number one goal scorer with a brace.
Rayon is now fourth with 13 points.
Marines earned their first point of the season after a 1-1 draw against AS Kigali. The city council side could not deal with shocking news that their former coach Eric Nshimiyimana had decided to join APR as an assistant coach to Erik Paske.
