NYABIHU - Police is investigating the mysterious death of Emmanuel Nsabimana, a businessman who was shot dead on New Year’s Eve on his way to his residence.

The late Nsanzimana, 30, who was a trader at Mukamira commercial centre, was shot just few metres from the centre.

He died after sustaining four gunshot wounds.
Both police spokesman Supt Eric Kayiranga and Nyabihu Mayor, Jean Damascene Ndagijimana confirmed the incident saying that the circumstances under which he was murdered were still unclear.

"We’re still investigating the real cause of his murder but what we can say is that we have some suspects and investigations are going on,” Kayiranga told The New Times over phone.

"The key suspect who is a woman identified as Pauline Nyirakagira and her son Jacques Usabyukuri are believed to have used three ex-combatants to plot for the murder of the deceased as some kind of revenge,” said police sources.

According to available information, the deceased and the prime suspect Nyirakagira had differences way back in 2005 emanating from the death of the latter’s son.

Sources say t hat the deceased was involved in the death of Nyirakagira’s son as an accomplice, for which he was handed a two-year prison sentence that he served until 2007.

"We have firm and reasonable grounds to suspect the woman since her son was seen in the company of the suspected ex-combatants at the same time,” said a police source who did not want to be named.
