I wonder why the Kigali City authorities are even setting up a team to inspect 13 secondary schools grouped under the "red category” for poor hygiene and sanitation, less than a month before schools reopen.

Honestly, if those schools are in the ‘red’ category already, why should they be given a chance? Obviously, they must be truly atrocious.

And as someone who has relatives in various secondary schools, I don’t want my family members to catch all manners of diseases because of poor administration.

I think that these 13 schools should be closed down for at least a term as a punitive measure.

Honestly, what will they have fundamentally changed in a week or two? Maybe cut the grass, but that’s it. In fact, what I wonder is this; why do the authorities allow these schools to admit students in the first place, if they lack certain bare essentials like clean water sources and good toilets?

While I’ll be the first to admit that the schools have the primary responsibility in this matter, local authorities should have been on top of this earlier.
