New Year’s Day was marked with an overdose of entertainment. Revellers who attended music events, organised in different parts of the city as well as in different nightclubs were given more than they deserved.
On the night of January 1 2010, patrons at the KBC based Club Planet were treated to a surprise appearance by artists both local and regional, who mesmerized the crowd and a spin master DJ (from Uganda), whose video mixes left the fully packed house reeling for more.
The night started with revellers flocking in as usual, but an extra charge (Rfw2000-Rfw3000) on the entrance suggested that there was a surprise performance—though no one knew who or when.
At around 1am, the first curtain raisers hit the dance floor with a number of local up-and-coming artists trying to woo the already excited crowd.
Shortly, King James took the microphone and performed some of his songs, including "Naratomboye”, "Intinyi” and "Ndatuje”, living the already excited revellers with no option but to sing along.
Next on the stage was The Ben, who did not need any introduction, but instead enough security to block the hyper fans especially ladies who were dying to join him on stage.
From "Amahirwe yanyuma” to "Garuka”, The Ben wowed the crowd and he proved to the crowd why he was voted the Best Artist of 2009.
One more and the last artist to go on stage was Big Fariouz, a Burundian musician artist but very popular in Rwanda.
He performed several tracks, not forgetting "Munyana”, Ngwino, and "Sinarinzi, some of his songs which won him fame on Rwanda’s music industry.
