Trying to relax and catch up on the latest news updates on my bed after work doesn’t feel quite satisfying when I know that my children are wasting valuable time playing, and watching T.V. On the other hand, novels seem to do the trick for them.

It entices me to buy more Shakespeare or Jane Austen’s novels whenever my daughter narrates to me some lines in one of them in the mornings as we share breakfast.
As a concerned mom, motivate your children to read while they are still young in order to develop the reading culture in your home. Young starters can read Mr. Hare and Lady bird storybooks and trust me; they soon will start to read newspapers that you buy hoping to find children’s stories.
Do not leave your kids play the whole day as if all play and no reading do not make Tom, Dick and Larry dull boys. Create a small home library by buying various books; right from inspirational narratives to educational.
A drawback that may linger at the back of your mind is; What if my son lends or loses the books that I buy him? Often, the kids will fox you into such lies especially if they have no interest at all.
But guess what? No child can ever beat a mom’s wisdom in grounding them all day at home or keeping the television set in the parents’ room.
Ben Carson, the outspoken American Neurosurgeon had his mom make him start reading at least two books per week. Fascinating as it sounds, that is more time dedicated to reading than to television!
Every book bought has to be marked ‘home library’ a slogan that would motivate other parents to buy books for their children instead of borrowing. Thus, building up the Home Library and building reading associations at the same time.
Problem looks well solved, but not yet my dear; there is a question; How do we as parents especially moms develop our children’s general knowledge?
It really tops up the common knowledge of every person in this tricky world. In every profession, be it modeling, singing or writing in that case, general knowledge is required to answer ideas that are hard to develop with the lecture room know how.
Many young people in stardom today fail to show how orphans are to be helped or other vulnerables like the elderly with their jackpot.
Without general knowledge, I should say our children’s future is at terrible risk. In a country with very many dependant people, we as moms shouldn’t forget to acquaint our young ones with our immediate environment and beyond.
Let our aim be to build a firm knowledge base in our children as they face the future.
Obviously, when your children know who the current Miss Rwanda is and can narrate something in good language derived from the various reading materials, why shouldn’t you be in unending thanksgiving to the dear Lord for your gifted children?
