Pan Afrique Boxing Club dominated the two-day national championship held on Thursday and Friday at Amahoro indoor stadium.
The city center based club had four boxers in the final of which two; Pascal Sibomana and Aziz Matusi were victorious in their respective weights.
Sibomana (Light weight) beat Hategeka Sibomana of Kimisagara while Matusi (Fly weight) defeated Remera’s Samuel Nshuti also on points.
Kimisagara’s Vincent Nsengiyumva defeated Mohammed Musange (Inkuba) to win the Middle weight category (75kg) while teammates Pascal Niyigena and Janvier Nsengiyumva beat Pascal Sano (Pan Afrique) and teammate Saleh Butoyi to take the Light fly and Bantam weight crowns respectively.
Remera’s Jean Marie Bikorimana registered a second round technical knocked over Pan Afrique’s Siraha Nsengumuremyi to win the Welter weight (69kg) category.
Theoneste Gakunzi of Remera defeated Jean Paul Gatera of Inkuba to claim the Light welter (64kg) category.
But the highlight of the final day was produced by Pan Afrique’s Pascal Sibomana exhibited the most dazzling boxing skills that resulted in a TOK (technical knockout) over Kimisagara’s Hategeka Sibomana after just two rounds.
David Sibomana of Rafiki knocked out Jean Marie Vianey of Remera club in the third round to win the Feather weight (57kg) category.
Thirty-six boxers from five local clubs took part in the two-day championship which started on Thursday with the preliminaries and climaxed on Friday with finals.
Rwanda Amateur Boxing Association was using the event to select the national team that will represent the country in the African qualifiers due in Algeria and Namibia next year for the 2008 Beijing Games.
