Today is not only the beginning of a new year, but also the start of a new decade. Looking back at 2009, there is no doubt that Rwandans have made great strides locally, regionally and on the International scene. Reflecting on the past decade, few would have predicted that Rwanda would be where it is today. Rwanda of the year 2000, is nowhere near the Rwanda of 2010.
We have tremendously improved our security, health and education levels and poverty reduced. Rwanda is more respected abroad, and has become the destination of choice for both investors and tourists.
All this would not be possible without the dedicated leadership and a committed population. Like President Kagame said in his new year’s message, "with determination, Rwandans are capable of achieving anything they set their minds to.”
However, despite the long list of achievements, there is still a lot of work that needs to get done, if we are to achieve a better Rwanda, as outlined in the Vision 2020.
As we take on the New Year and the new decade, let’s keep our feet on the progress pedal and heed the advice of the President when he says "we should not be complacent.” And that by working together, diligently and productively "no doubt we will achieve whatever we wish for our families and our country.”
A happy and prosperous New Year to you all.
