The Social Security Fund of Rwanda (SSFR) has insisted that the multi-million dollar housing project to be built in Gaculiro is still on course.

Dan Kayonga, Principal Media and Public Relations Officer of SSFR denied reports that the project had been put on hold due to on-going negotiations between the pension body and government.

"The housing project is still ongoing and following due process,” said Kayonga.

"We held consultations with stakeholders in late October. We have just received their input which is going to be integrated into the initial plans,” he said.

The pension fund plans to build 2,600 units in Gaculiro.
 "We have to follow the Kigali City Master Plan and carry out other studies like environmental impact assessment and soil tests to make sure the place is habitable,” he said.

He said that the project would also have to go through a tendering process but could not confirm when the actual construction works begin.
