108 in 36 cooperatives from around country yesterday completed a three-day training in the management of cooperatives that was sponsored by the Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC) in a capacity building drive.

The training mainly attracted teachers as one of the beneficiaries since they meet many people in society.

Antoine Bigirimana, the program officer of BTC, said the aim of the training was to improve the members’ capacity on how to conduct their business within their respective cooperatives.

"After we realised that everything was not going on well especially in recording the books of accounts and reports given, we decided to conduct this training,” Bigirimana said.

The budget for the year 2009 is Euros 0.4m of which Euros 12,500 was given to each cooperative to bankroll their projects.

"The money that we use to sponsor such projects is separate from the donation given to Rwanda by the Belgium government in budgetary support,” Bigirimana revealed.

The training was coordinated by the Belgian Embassy through its Micro Intervention program and the Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA).
