In a move to improve security around Kigali International Airport, Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority (RCAA) has acquired new security equipment worth Rwf170 million.
In an interview with Business Times on Tuesday, Dr.Richard Masozera Director General of Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority (RCAA) revealed that the last consignment was delivered last month.

"The acquired equipment is more modern than the existing ones  and will provide a more efficient and safety environment,” Masozera said.

The package which has been imported from the United Kingdom includes x-ray scanners and walk through metal detectors.

It is also includes high-quality microprocessor-based security detectors that provide superior metal discrimination and detection.

Walk through Metal Detector are designed and engineered to meet the specific security needs of public facilities airport inclusive.

Masozera also observed that although airport security is currently not under threat, improving security equipment is a necessity.

"Our security is normally tight; we are simply reinforcing it with new and modern equipment,” he said.

The Director General also revealed that RCAA intends to increase its surveillance coverage under the Closed Circuit Television (CCTv) and introduce automation of car park.

The automation of car park will not only improve security but also efficiency in financial collection,” Masozera said.
"The system will offer a diverse range of information to meet our security needs and reduce the likelihood small funds being mismanaged.”

Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority is a Public Institution in charge of internal and external travels with respect to the rules and regulations of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
