Jacques Tuyisenge netted the lone goal for AS Kigali on day 10 of the Rwanda Premier League, raising hopes that Andre Casa Mbungo’s side can build from there to keep fighting for the league title.
The match against Marines was played on Monday, November 28 at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu.
Tuyisenge admits the City of Kigali side "cannot keep going up and then down” in their bid for consistency. The striker said they need to be consistent in the next matches as they want to compete for the league title.
AS Kigali have endured a wobble of late, with the chasing pack closing in as the battle for the league title heats up. But victory over Marines returned some of the feel-good factor to the Nyamirambo-based side.
Tuyisenge hopes his efforts, which helped down Yves Rwasamanzi's team, can be used as a springboard by a side that is juggling Premier League commitments and the Peace Cup quest.
"It was one of our best performances of the season but now we have to keep doing the same. We did a brilliant job. It was a big win, a big game, and everyone is happy,” the forward said.
"We cannot keep going up and then down. We have to carry on and keep the momentum. We have many games coming and if we want to stay near the top, we need to win more of them.”
Reflecting on his own performance against Marines, Tuyisenge added: "I’m happy of course, with the goal but the most important thing is always to win the game."
"We fought for every ball. We know we have quality to play but this kind of game is about how you fight and be mentally strong – we did everything.”
Tuyisenge made the all-important difference early in the 16th minute with a powerful strike.
AS Kigali now turn their focus on the big match against APR on December 8 at Kigali Stadium.
