Senegalese fans at the Khalifa International Stadium dedicated their 2-1 victory over Ecuador to the late Papa Bouba Diop.

Tuesday, November 29, is exactly two years their former midfielder Papa Bouba Diop died in France. Diop was one of the stars of the 2002 World Cup. He netted three goals to help Senegal reached the quarter finals.

The Teranga Lions finished second in Group A as goals from Ismaila Sarr and skipper Kalidou Koulibaly saw them sailing through to the round of 16.

"True Lion never dies. Bouba Diop 28/01/1978- 29/11/2020," one of the inscriptions on a placard read.

This is the second time in their history that Senegal have gone past the Group stage of the World Cup.
