Ambassador Swanee Hunt, a renowned policy specialist on gender parity and a Founding Director of the Women and Public Policy Program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, is in Rwanda as part of her efforts on strengthening the role of women in the society.

During her visit, Hunt will be conducting a series of meetings with policymakers, including legislators, on the progress made in her work centred on the advancement of women within the public domain.

As an author of four publications on Rwandan women and currently working on a book "Rwanda Women Rising,” Hunt is also in the country to research on peace processes as it impacts on the role of women in Rwanda.

Yesterday the activist participated in a planning seminar aimed at setting directions for the new centre for gender, culture and development studies under Harvard University research in Rwanda in which she gave a keynote address on the status of Women Worldwide.

In an interview with The New Times, she said that her research work revealed political will at the highest level as an indispensable factor in championing the women’s agenda within society.

She noted that Rwanda’s progress in championing gender equity was an example of how its leadership stands out in terms of bringing new ways of addressing issues affecting society.
