NGOMA—Kayonza district has lost her slot to represent east in national basketball competitions just a week after emerging the winner.

Jean Bosco Rutagendwa, in charge of youth, sports and culture at the district said the team which had emerged winner failed to observe all the rules of the game. The new development gives chance to Ngoma which emerged second in the earlier game which ended 59-57.

"They played without clearance from the federation which is one of the requirements needed before kick off,” Rutagendwa said.

"They just presented their own identity cards bearing no federation stamp but we allowed the game to proceed and address complaints later.”

The national tournament is slated for December 1 at the Amahoro min stadium in Kigali. Rutagendwa added that Kayonza used division players from Kigali institute of science and technology who were not eligible to play.

"They even had more than two students in their team against the rules.”

This competition has been controversial in that, first Kayonza had earlier abandoned the game during their encounter with Ngoma just 15minutes to end on allegations of ‘fake referee’ not accredited.

A replay was ordered after Kayonza successfully lodged a complaint to Rwanda basketball federation.

Rutagendwa said the act of abandoning the game also contributed to their [Kayonza] disqualification. He said they would have continued to finish then lodged their complaint later.
