AFTER a bright start, Rwanda’s chess players failed to keep the momentum going as they were edged by Uganda’s Harold Wanyama and Kenya’s Brian Magana in the eight-round Rwabushenyi Memorial Chess Championship which climaxed yesterday in Kampala, Uganda.

Rwanda’s top player Abiye William managed 5.5 points to finish third while Alex Ruzigura and Godfrey Kabera tied in fourth place with 4.5 points.

Wanyama amassed 7 points to pocket Rwf0.3m plus a winner’s trophy. The tournament, held at Kati Kati restaurant attracted 70 players including women and under-14 players from Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
