Juniors collapse in Nairobi

RWANDA’s junior tennis players put in another bizarre performance in the third leg of the ITF/CAT East Africa U-18 tennis circuit in Nairobi, Kenya. Apart from Christian Rudasingwa who managed to reach the second round after ousting Auf Mohammed in the first round, the others suffered heavy defeats.

RWANDA’s junior tennis players put in another bizarre performance in the third leg of the ITF/CAT East Africa U-18 tennis circuit in Nairobi, Kenya.

Apart from Christian Rudasingwa who managed to reach the second round after ousting Auf Mohammed in the first round, the others suffered heavy defeats.

Rudasingwa came from a set down to edge his Egyptian opponent 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. His run was however short-lived as he later fell to the experienced Togolese Koukou Bernard 1-6, 1-6.

Melee Bizimana lost to South African Ebersey Brandon 1-6, 1-6, Hamisi Gatete suffered a straight sets defeat against Danish Green David 0-6, 3-6, while Desire Nkurutsu was no match for Egypt’s Alaa Seif after a 1-6, 1-6 demolition.

It the girls’ category, Gisele Umumararungu lost to Mauritius teenager Dinah Zinah 5-7, 3-6, Filadaus Kiza suffered a humiliating 0-6, 0-6 defeat against Kim Karigiuna of Ireland while Olive Uwineza lost to her Burundi counterpart Sophie Rufikiri 2-6, 2-6.

The Nairobi leg preceded the Kigali and Kampala legs respectively.
