While meeting local leaders, the provincial Governor, Célestin Kabahizi tasked the leaders to explain why the revenue collection for most of the districts is very low.
"You should step up efforts to ensure that expectations are met,” Kabahizi told the local leaders.
He stressed the need to set maximum targets in an attempt to break the economic dependence syndrome.
The tough speaking governor was reacting to a regional performance report by Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) last week.
Though the report showed a progressive annual increment of revenue in the region, the figures still fall short of the anticipated expectations.
The report indicated total revenue from domestic taxes and customs is close to Rwf2.5billion slightly above the Rwf2billion collected last year.
"If we jointly work to correct the shortcomings in our local leaderships, more can certainly be achieved,” Sébastien Hakizimana, Karongi district vice mayor said.
