Tuwukate draws a huge crowd

MTN’s 6th ‘Tuwukate concert’, drew a mammoth crowd on Saturday evening, despite the nasty weather.

King James kicked off the show with ‘Nta kibazo’, a track which set music lovers wild.

Tusker Project Fame III contestants, Debarl, Ng’ang’a, Illuminata Alpha had their marathon of performance and proved to the crowd the potential within.

Clad in a red long-sleeved shirt, and blues jeans, Alpha’s golden voice set the already excited audience screaming uncontrollably. The young millionaire performed a number of songs, including his composition, "Turi umwe”.

Princess, Urban Boys, Rider man, K8, Kitoko and Tom Close were the local artists who also graced the event.

MTN’s Andrew Rugege, handed over prizes to the MTN 2009 music awards winners.  Tom Close, who was voted (MTN Tuwukate -2009 Best Artist), walked away with Rwf1, 000,000 million, plus a recording and distribution contract from Sound Africa.

Diplomat and Kitoko emerged as first and second runners. Both walked away with Rwf500, 000 Rfw300, 000 respectively, and a one year music distribution contract from Sound Africa.
