RWAMAGANA- Africare has donated sewing machines and other work kits to scores of students who completed training in different vocational skills.

The beneficiaries, mainly orphans and vulnerable children were drawn from three different vocational schools in Rubona sector in Rwamagana district.

The items were handed over during the weekend by Africare country representative, Dr. Obura Wills, who advised the students to use the skills they acquired to develop their communities.  

 "We have managed to help you train to acquire important skills. The start-up kits are meant to set you rolling in the business,” he said.

"This is the time for you to be self reliant and help your colleagues in villages, who never got the chance to access such training.”

Daniel Karinganire, the Executive Secretary of Rubona sector, commended Africare, describing their work as ‘impressive.’

"Students in carpentry and tailoring have received instruments to use. It is important because the graduates are going to be productive members of the society,” he said.

Julienne Nyinawuntu, 19, one of the beneficiaries said they were happy to get the tools to help them use their skills in a productive way.

"Most of us head families. I for instance look after my siblings, the skills will therefore help us earn a meaningful living,” she said.
