Cooperative launches mushroom growing project
MUSANZE - A local cooperative union, APIB, has embarked on commercial farming of mushrooms spreading across 13 sectors in the Northern Province. The chairperson of APIB, Martha Mukamutara, said that the new project intends to support poor families especially those with small pieces of land.

MUSANZE - A local cooperative union, APIB, has embarked on commercial farming of mushrooms spreading across 13 sectors in the Northern Province.
The chairperson of APIB, Martha Mukamutara, said that the new project intends to support poor families especially those with small pieces of land.
In Gakenke district alone, more that 60 families from three sectors have so benefited.
Mukamutara added that members of the cooperative, most of who are infected with HIV have been encouraged to include mushrooms in their diets.
"Scientists have revealed that it contains a high ingredient for increasing white blood cells especially among people living with HIV,” she said.
