KARONGI - The Mayor of Nyabihu District, Jean Damascene Ndagijimana, and his family, were involved in a road accident when the car they were travelling in skated off the road along the Karongi-Kigali highway at Rugabano sector

According to a witness, the Mayors car veered off the road after the driver failed to negotiate a bend.

In the ensuing struggle to keep his car steady the mayor hit several roadside poles before landing in a valley.

Ndagijimana who was driving along with his wife and baby had five other people in the car.

"Everybody is fine and those who suffered minor injuries are also recovering very well,” the Mayor said in a phone interview.

Shortly after the crash, Ndagijimana was transferred to Rugabano health centre.

He becomes the second person in Karongi district to be involved in a car accident since the festive season begun.

On Christmas eve, a car belonging to Kibuye hospital director, Dr Cyrille Dusabamungu, also went off the road killing the driver.
