Four local coaches left for Nairobi yesterday to attend a one-day regional Fiba workshop scheduled for today.

According to Jean Lucien Mugabo, the local basketball governing body secretary general, the workshop is a trainers’ training course for zone-level referees and is open to all zone v countries.

"We have sent four referees for this workshop and we expect these referees to pass on the acquired skills to local referees,” Mugabo said.

"We also have plans of increasing the number of qualified local referees. We intend to have more referees engaging in a level-two refereeing course mid this month,” Mugabo disclosed.

The Quadra’s transport and accommodation costs were jointly footed by the national basketball federation and the sports ministry.

The contingent includes; Jacques Mutaganda, Ismael Uwimana, Eugene Ntajogerwa and Christine Ngendahimana.

Presently, Rwanda boasts of 25 national-level referees, 5 zone-level referees and one veteran international-level referee.

Other countries who have been attracted to the workshop include Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Egypt and hosts Kenya.
