The local football governing body, Ferwafa is not convinced whether former Amavubi Stars captain Ahmed ‘Gatauti’ Ndikumana is ready to return to the national side.

Ferwafa boss, Brig. Gen. John Bosco Kazura told Times Sport in a lengthy phone call yesterday that the federation can’t just allow Ndikumana to return in the national team fold ‘just anyhow’.

"He (Ndikumana) should first explain why he quit and what has forced him to change his mind.

"We are not fully convinced whether he is back for good or just playing games. He may be having other motives (for returning), which are unknown and need to be known too,” Kazura explained.

The Ferwafa supremo was reacting to an article exclusively published in The New Times of Wednesday, November 28 in which the player was expressing his desire to return to the national team after a year of self-imposed retirement.

Kazura emphasized that the Amavubi Stars is not a free entry and exit camp for whoever wants to.

"Amavubi is not a dust bin for every body to throw and pick rubbish from. This is a national team which must be respected and respect is practiced by discipline persons. If you’re indiscipline, then you’re not part of it (Amavubi team).

"There are many youngsters willing to play and several of them have outpaced Katauti, therefore I don’t find it logical for us to start begging for anyone to play for his country,” Kazura stressed.

The former Amavubi Stars captain Ndikumana is considering a return to international football, after a year in self-imposed retirement.

Ndikumana who features in the Cyprus Premier league sent a fax mid this week considering a return to international football.

He said recently, "I have informed them (Ferwafa) that I’m ready to play for Amavubi again.”

Despite facing a rough exit from the Uefa Cup championship at the hands of Tottenham, Ndikumana’s Anorthosis is leading the Cyprus league table with 24 points in 17 fixtures.
The experienced defender confirmed that he wrote to Ferwafa authorities expressing his desire not to be considered for national team duties anymore in early 2006 after he was stripped off the team captaincy.

The former Rayon Sports ace was stripped of the team captaincy last year in the wake of reports that he received a kick back to fix the Angola-Rwanda game at Amahoro stadium where Rwanda lost 0-1 to pave her way out of the 2006 CAN finals held in Cairo, Egypt.
