Living in the streets isn’t a one man experience; many of today’s people are enduring the trying times of abstract poverty. The streets of this clean city have of late had an increase in a number of street kids and vulnerable people dwelling in it. Usually I feel sad to see someone who surely works to the extreme having a cigarette as his lunch or an ‘ndazi’ snack while trying to save. Going back to the street kid, he has nothing at all even the small ‘ndazi’.

A common hear in everyday life is how various people turn from rags to riches. A good example is Bobi Wine, an outspoken Ugandan musician who of recent, altered with his music genre to make it rather educating than entertaining.
His sweet ballads of ‘Carolina’ describe a young woman whom he went to school with way back in 1999.

Life wasn’t compromising with her situation in the slums of Kampala and now she lives in a bar, struggling to make something for her and her ailing daughter to hold onto.
In the same vain, many of today’s men who have grown wealthy from nothing are trying to change the image of what we term as the slum. You can also do it for a change this New Years, give for joy.
Who said people in the slums have no thanking souls? According to me, they are the best when it comes to thanksgiving. Go on, cook for them something special. All the best from me in your kick start to the New Year.
