HUYE – Hundreds of Christians flocked to different places of worship to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
At the Butare Cathedral, the largest in the Country, hundreds of Christians turned up for the early morning celebration of Mass.

At St Paul’s Cathedral, Bishop Nathan Gasatura, the Bishop of the Butare Anglican diocese in his Christmas message called upon Christians to work hard so as to improve their livelihoods.

Gasatura called for mindset change, self-confidence and hard work if the diocese is to regain its glorious past.

The charismatic prelate reminded worshipers that Butare is home to the first Catholic mission in Rwanda and is also home to some of the biggest educational institutions. He challenged Christians to garner strength from such past accomplishments so as to move forward.

"God who made this possible in the past is the same today, all we have to do is believe in  ourselves and work towards the attainment of our development goals,” said Bishop Gasatura.

Meanwhile three babies all boys were born at the University teaching hospital of Butare slightly before mid-night. According to Dr Andre Musemakweli, the director of the hospital, one baby was born prematurely.

"The babies were born without any complications except one case of premature birth which our medical team is handling accordingly,” said Dr Musemakweli, in a telephone interview with The New Times.
