The Somali National Army troops that have been undergoing military training at Gabiro School of Infantry are due to pass-out today.

Military Spokesman, Maj. Jill Rutaremara confirmed the development yesterday, saying that a total number of 343 soldiers will pass-out. The Chief of General Staff, Gen. James Kabarebe is expected to grace the occasion.

Maj. Rutaremara said that the troops passing out today include 98 Somalis.

"They underwent a six-month Company Sergeant Major’s Course,” he said.

He said that the newly trained Somali military personnel were airlifted by Rwanda from their country for the training. Rwanda will pay for their return to Somalia as well, he added.

The contingent is expected to back up the Somali  army that is supporting the transitional government to end the conflict. Rwanda is optimistic that the new Somali contingent from Kigali would add some strength to the country’s military muscle to stabilize the war-torn country.

The pass–out comes after the international community has called for serious attention on the Somali conflicts that have made about 60 percent of Mogadishu residents have fled clashes in the city.
