150 Gicumbi residents given ultimatum to return cows

GICUMBI - Close to 150 people in Gicumbi District have been given till, January 8, 2010 to return the cows they acquired illegally under the ‘one cow per’ family programme. The directive was given during the district Security meeting that attracted all sector executive secretaries, Agronomists, a representative from the ministry of Agriculture, Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF) and the National Police.

GICUMBI - Close to 150 people in Gicumbi District have been given till, January 8, 2010 to return the cows they acquired illegally under the ‘one cow per’ family programme.

The directive was given during the district Security meeting that attracted all sector executive secretaries, Agronomists, a representative from the ministry of Agriculture, Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF) and the National Police.

During the meeting, District vice Mayor for Economic Affairs, Ildephonse Butera pointed out that out of 21 sectors in the District, only Kaniga, Rubaya and Cyumba allocated the cows to the rightful beneficiaries.

He said that districts with majority of people who got the cows illegally include Nyamiyaga (25), Ruvune (21) and Kageyo (15).

The cows must be returned latest 8 January.
