The Executive Vice President of International Finance Corporation (IFC) Lars Thunnel has announced that the institution will invest in the extraction of methane gas in Lake Kivu.

Thunnel, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of IFC- a World Bank private sector wing, said yesterday IFC is interested in investing in the energy and other sectors in the country.
He was speaking to journalists shortly after meeting President Paul Kagame at Village Urugwiro, Kacyiru.

"We are also interested in investing in the financial sector in Rwanda particularly banks; we are also looking at possibilities of boosting small and medium enterprises in the country,” he said.  

He added that IFC would also promote the tourism sector. IFC and Kigali Serena Hotel yesterday signed an agreement that will see the expansion of the hotel in a bid to boost tourism. Finance and Economic Planning Minister, James Musoni said that IFC started its operations in Rwanda in 1996 and they would now open an office in the country.

He said that the corporation would promote the capital markets in the country. In the next one year, IFC would invest $1 billion in Africa, he added.
