Rwanda’s manufacturing giant, Utexrwa has entered into a partnership with German chemical and pharmaceutical giant, Bayer to produce over 70, 000 anti-malaria bed nets.

In an interview with The New Times, the textile’s Managing Director, Raj Rajendran said Utexrwa will be working with Bayer which will provide the chemicals for the treatment of the nets.

Bayer is well-known for its original brand of aspirin and is the third largest pharmaceutical company in the world.

"We are ready to produce the first 70,000 nets in two weeks time from now and we produce another second phase in May of again 70,000 nets.”

The project has been boosted by the support from United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Bralirwa and the ministry of health which have provided technical and financial support.

Rajendran revealed that the production line has already by installed and technicians have been undergoing training.

According to Rajendran, their target is to invest $12 million in 3 to 4 years with an aim of employing 2000 employees from the current 740.

He revealed the project will have the capacity to produce over 12 million nets per year for local and the export markets.
