NYAGATARE – Despite festive seasons bringing in increased demand for various produces, scores of traders in Nyagatare district have expressed disappointment over the season’s poor harvest.
Most of traders who spoke to The New Times on Monday said that this year’s agricultural production was low and this will see many not celebrating Christmas and New Year in style.
‘This season did not witness a bumper harvest especially in agricultural sector. We have not even prepared anything for Christmas. It will be a normal day like the rest,’ one of the banana traders, Leonidas Muganga said.
Consequently there is distortion in the market. ‘Food prices have been so high with demand increasing daily. This has been due to the shortage of agricultural products.
This makes it difficult for our consumers to save money for festive celebrations,’ he added.
Charles Uwitonze, Nyagatare market trader’s association vice president and a whole seller, said that this festive season will not mark any change his daily endeavors.
