The last batch of RDF peacekeepers under Maj. Manasseh Manzi arrived from Khartoum yesterday evening to mark an end of the rotation exercise that started a few weeks ago.

The 127 soldiers who have been working under the UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) for one year were welcomed by Brig. Gen. John Bosco Kazura at the Kigali International Airport.

Another contingent led by Maj. James Ndahiro Abaine boarded the plane to replace them.

A moment of silence was held in remembrance of the five peacekeepers that lost their lives recently while on the same mission but serving in Dafur.

The fallen peacekeepers were laid to rest on Monday.
Apart from the contingents in Khartoum, there are now four battalions currently stationed in Darfur as Rwanda’s contingent maintaining peace in a region embroiled in an internal conflict that has seen thousands die and millions displaced.
