Islam Mulinda, one of the country’s top sprinters has set his sights on starting detailed training after overcoming his injury setbacks.
Regarded as Rwanda’s 100m and 200m king, Mulinda was beaten in final of last weekend’s national championship dubbed ‘Rendezvous National’ by Emmanuel Havugimana.
"I lost the final of the national championship due the injury; I could not push as hard as I can. But I’m recovering well and hope to start serious training as soon as possible,” said Mulinda, who has been nursing a knee injury for the last two months.
Havugimana won the 100m race in 10:86 beating the defending champions (Mulinda) into second in 11:04.
The 21-year-old is starting early preparations ahead of the Nairobi Senior African Championship scheduled for April next year where his main target will be to gain the 2012 London Olympic Games minimums.
Mulinda is now targeting to clock 10:00 in 100m and 21:00 in 200m.
The athlete is also in close contact with his Dutch agent, Akim Dimal with a view to take him for a training camp in Holland after the Nairobi senior championship.
